Australia’s Favourite Vet-Inspired School Holiday Program Goes Virtual – Join the Fun from Anywhere!
Virtual Online Vet Camp 29 June to 11 July 2025
Face-to-face Camp 7 to 11 July 2025 (Scholarships available – deadline June 16)

Australia’s favourite veterinary-inspired school holiday program, Future Vet Kids Camp, is back this winter with its Virtual Online Vet Camp running alongside the face-to-face camp in Brisbane, offering animal-loving kids aged 9 to 17 the chance to join the action from anywhere in the country (or the world)!
Designed by real veterinarians and led by the dynamic twin sister duo Drs Audrey and Alison Shen (stars of the Bondi Vet TV series), the 5-day immersive program champions responsible pet ownership, a love of animals and their habitats, and gives kids a sneak peek into real careers of the animal world.
“The camp showcases the many exciting career paths in veterinary medicine and the broader animal care industry — from exotic animals and surgery to wildlife conservation and rescue,” says Dr Alison Shen, aka The Acupuncture Vet, based in Brisbane.
“Campers don’t need to be in the room to be part of the excitement! Whether they’re tuning in from a big city or a small town, our virtual participants are right there with us — asking questions, interacting with our presenters, and getting a front-row seat to all the action!”
The Brisbane-based camp will be held at Holy Family Primary School in Indooroopilly and will run during the second week of the school holidays, from 7 to 11 July 2025.
The Virtual Online Vet Camp will run alongside the face-to-face camp from 29th June to 11th July 2025, allowing young ‘future vets’ to join the classroom live, ask questions in real time, and participate from the comfort of home — whether they’re in Sydney, Perth, Darwin, or even South Africa!
Just like the in-person version at all camp locations (including Sydney and Melbourne), campers are grouped by age into three tailored streams – Wombats (ages 9-11), Kookaburras (ages 12–14) and Junior Vets (ages 14–17) – each diving into a full schedule of veterinary science, animal care and interactive activities!
“Our campers will explore everything from genetic conditions, pet nutrition and surgical procedures to exotic pets, animal welfare, behaviour, wildlife rescue and conservation, and more!” says Dr Alison. “Virtual campers will work through learning modules and watch live videos with our guest presenters and ask questions.”
Campers will attend workshops on blood draw, suturing, imaging, basic anatomy, pet grooming, marine biology and more!
“Our Junior Vets dive deeper, analysing imaging and blood work, tackling real-life cases, and even observing surgeries. They get a genuine sense of what it’s like to work in veterinary medicine,” says Dr Audrey.
The fun continues with behind-the-scenes excursions to some of Brisbane’s top veterinary and wildlife facilities, including the University of Queensland, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, and Veterinary Specialist Services (VSS) in Jindalee. Plus a special trip to Summer Land Camel Farm — humps and all!
Expect live demos of laser therapy and acupuncture, along with visits from the Queensland Mounted Police and other expert presenters ready to inspire the next generation of animal carers. (Yes, someone might bring up whale snot — it’s a thing.)
And for those curious about wildlife work? Campers can chat with Drs Audrey and Alison about their real-world experiences during the 2020–2021 bushfires, when they treated countless injured animals and helped establish Possumwood Wildlife Hospital.
“Even if the kids don’t pursue veterinary careers, being surrounded by animals and like-minded peers from all over the country has such a powerful and positive impact,” says Dr Audrey.
