A Night to Remember: The Puppy Cup Fundraiser 2024

The evening of the Puppy Cup kicked off in style with the sweet sounds of beautiful harp music filling the air, setting a serene and elegant tone for the night.

The stunning courtyard of the Intercontinental Hotel Double Bay provided the perfect backdrop for this unforgettable fundraising soirée, bringing together animal lovers and supporters for a cause close to our hearts – pet adoption.

Guests were treated to a fine selection of champagne and a delectable array of canapés, including a special treat for the dogs – lamb, polenta, and beetroot crème fraiche, ensuring everyone felt pampered and part of the celebration.

The Puppy Cup is not just another glamorous event; it offers a kind alternative to the traditional Melbourne Cup. While there were plenty of glitz, glam, bubbles, and canapés, we hosted a unique and heartwarming "race" – the Rescue Dog Race. This special event featured eight adorable dogs, all available for adoption through North Shore Dog Rescue and Animal Rescue Sydney.

Guests were invited to make a ‘bet’ (aka; donation) on which dog they thought would find a home first, adding an exciting twist to the evening.

And the winner? Digby! Not only did he win the most ‘bets’, but he also found his forever home! We were absolutely thrilled for Digby and his new family, and the joy in the room was palpable as he crossed the finish line into his new life.

In addition to the excitement of the dog race, we raised additional funds through the talent of Charles Billich, a renowned modern contemporary artist, who sketched stunning Pet Paw-traits on the night. His beautiful artwork helped raise funds for animal rescue, while also allowing guests to take home a unique and meaningful memento.

The evening was further enhanced by a powerful talk from Emma Hurst MP of the Animal Justice Party, who shared her invaluable insights on animal welfare. Emma’s pioneering work has achieved significant milestones in the fight for animal rights, including:

  • Securing mandatory lifetime bans for those convicted of serious animal abuse

  • Outlawing the practice of convenience killing in pounds

  • Banning the production, possession, and distribution of animal cruelty videos

  • Advocating for legal changes linking animal abuse to domestic violence

  • Ensuring animals are included in Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs)

  • Securing refuge funding for facilities that can house animals escaping domestic violence

  • Obtaining interim animal bans for abusers during legal proceedings

  • Fighting against by-laws banning animals in strata complexes

  • Championing motions on critical welfare issues, from banning puppy farming to supporting humane wildlife management

It was a lovely evening filled with kind-hearted guests, all coming together to support the cause of pet adoption and animal welfare. We are so grateful for everyone who attended and contributed to making the Puppy Cup a night to remember.

Thank you for all involved, in supporting us to bring the Puppy Cup to life and making a difference for animals in need.
